Ben Storms is a Belgian artist, designer, and sculptor working between functional art, collectible design, and contemporary sculpture. His practice is rooted in the transformation of traditional materials and the redefinition of their physical presence.
Born into a family of masons in Belgium, Storms studied art history and stone-carving techniques — an artisanal foundation that continues to inform his material-driven approach. Based in Antwerp, he creates sculptural objects and collectible works that combine traditional craftsmanship with contemporary production processes.
Works by Ben Storms are included in the permanent collections of Design Museum Gent and the Centre for Innovation and Design at Grand-Hornu. Working primarily with marble, stone, and metal, Storms alters the expected behavior of materials, making heavy surfaces appear weightless, rigid forms seem fluid, and solid matter acquire an almost organic presence.
Positioned between function and sculpture, his works retain utility while operating as autonomous spatial objects. Through shifts in scale, texture, and perception, Storms constructs visual paradoxes that challenge conventional understandings of weight, balance, and materiality.
His practice explores the relationship between material and perception, proposing the object as a space where design, sculpture, and architecture converge.
