Hand-Hammered Copper, Patina, Microcrystalline Wax

Unique piece

Rocking Chair IV continues Marius Ritiu’s exploration of transforming metal into forms that evoke something primordial and archaeological. Hand-hammered from copper, the piece resembles a meteorite fragment or an ancient artefact, combining a sense of mass with a fluid sculptural presence.

The patinated copper, marked by deep blue tones, emphasises the textured relief of the surface, while polished sections introduce a contrast between raw materiality and reflective finish. Despite its monumental appearance, the work maintains a balance between sculpture and functional object.

Ritiu’s process relies on direct manual metalworking with a minimal set of tools, giving each work a strong sense of physical gesture and material singularity.
