2026 Brass, liquid-applied silver H 100.5 × W 91.5 × D 23 cm Unique piece
Pattern Cut Wall Piece — Liquid Silver continues Ben Storms’s exploration of the expressive potential of metal. The work is created using Pattern Cut, a technique developed by the artist in which sheets of metal are deformed and bent according to a predetermined plan, much like pieces of a garment pattern. Unlike the more unpredictable Crushed technique, this process allows Storms to exercise greater control over the curves, folds and irregular silhouette of the object.
The composition is defined by the contrast between smooth golden brass and a textured silver surface. Applied in liquid form and exposed to intense heat, the silver retains a fluid, almost molten appearance after solidifying. The differing textures respond to light in distinct ways, combining a precisely constructed form with a sense of spontaneous movement.
