Room Divider Giallo Siena

Giallo Siena marble (Italy), liquid silver on stainless steel base
H 200 x L 145 cm

Ben Storms’ sculptural room divider exists at the intersection of functional object, architectural element, and autonomous sculpture. The work is part of a series of six individual sections that can be combined to form a continuous surface, transforming the surrounding space.

One side is finished in Giallo Siena marble using the open-book technique: sections of stone are arranged in mirror image, doubling the natural veining and creating an almost symmetrical composition. The reverse is finished with liquid silver, giving the surface a fluid, almost molten quality that contrasts with the monumentality of the stone.

The form is created using Storms’ Pattern Cut technique. Metal is deformed, bent, and shaped according to a predetermined pattern, allowing precise control over the object’s curves, folds, and rounded edges. This technique also enables individual sections to be joined together to create a continuous sculptural surface.
