Ex Hale Wallpiece translates the form of the Ex Hale table into a wall-mounted sculpture. The object is based on a technique developed by Ben Storms: two joined metal sheets are inflated under high pressure to create a cushion-like volume. This form is 3D-scanned, after which its folds and deformations are reproduced from a single block of honey onyx using CNC milling.
The hard stone retains a soft, gently compressed silhouette. The onyx’s natural veining and translucency shift with the light, reinforcing the contrast between the form’s apparent softness and the material’s physical density. Presented on the wall, the familiar shape is removed from its original function and perceived as a sculpture in its own right.
